This work, entitled“ 1997 No. 4(1) Beijing”, is part of the
“Wedding” series, made between 1997 and 2000. This picture
features Rong Rong posing together with his former girlfriend.
There is a strong contrast between the shiny colored wedding
dresses and the debris-filled room; the hope of a new beginning
against the ruins of a demolished building. The inspiration likely
came to Rong Rong back in the early nineties while working in
a commercial photography studio, where couples went to have
elegant wedding pictures taken. Since 2000, Rong Rong has
been collaborating with Japanese photographer Inri who later
became his wife.
